As far as I understand this is an upstream problem. I have the same issue. To workaround this problem you can install battery applet from ROSA Marathon 2012. It works well for me. Case is actual for kdebase4-workspace-4.11.8-2-rosa2012.1.x86_64 upstream bug https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=304510. But it is resolved- wontfix Case is actual for 2014.1 The "upower --dump" command shows time to empty:
