ROSA Linux Bugzilla – Bug 5168
Rosa Ships a poorly preforming b43 Firmware that makes certain cards slow
Last modified: 2015-03-16 13:09:57 MSK
b43-firmware version 782 causes issues with certain BCM 4318 Cards causing them to run at extremely slow speeds and drop connections. This can be worked around by installing the firmware of version 666.2 manually outside of RPM with b43-firmware-install. However the faulty firmware should be fixed.

Please use hw-probe on a such system to upload the hardware data and the logs to us. This might be useful.

I'd love to have it fixed too, but how? It is a binary blob, so it is hard for me to fix it myself. On the other hand, Broadcom devs have responded to none of my bug reports so far.
If the proprietary driver (see dkms-broadcom-wl) contains a newer firmware, we can try to extract and use it to see if it fixes the problem.
Ideas are appreciated.
See if there exists a different version of the firmware other than 782. Roll back to 666.2 if need be. Or if there is a better version than 782 Upgrade and I'll try it.
