If I read the report properly, it is against Desktop.Fresh.
Maybe it makes sense to experiment with different video drivers (free/proprietary)?

I have asked Alexander Kazantsev about possibility to use Catalyst 12.6 with such hardware and he told that now it is impossible.
Catalyst Legacy was released today (http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/linux/legacy/Pages/legacy-radeon_linux.aspx), hopefully it will be possible to use this driver for that card, as well.
In repo soon...

As answer for this letter: "Hi. I built newest fglrx-legacy driver for old AMD/ATI cards, that for now have support X-Server 13.
You need install newest ldetect-lst package
and add container:
urpmi.addmedia fglrx-legacy http://abf.rosalinux.ru/downloads/rosa2012.1/container/937466/i586/non-free/release/
urpmi,addmedia fglrx-legacy http://abf.rosalinux.ru/downloads/rosa2012.1/container/937467/x86_64/non-free/release/
Then run XFdrake and setup proprietary driver."
user has such situation
1. Install ldetect-lst
2. AddДобавил i586 repo
3. Launch XFdrake and agree with installation proprietary driver
4. System is frozen when booting. KDE is not started
Ptress Ctrl+Alt+F2 and launch startx - it does not start too
xinit: giving up
xinit: unable to connect to X server: Connection refused
xinit: server error
