Support of old monitors (that not get right EDID) is fully dropped by X_Server 13. You need manually add proreply conf line in X11 (see solution in goole like 50-monitor.conf, 10-monitor.conf etc). We plan add new funcionality in XDdrake, but we was said users - Fresh not work on OLD hardware, please not using it (see Release Notes in WiKi). It's only for newest...

Some strange that you monitors stay black - instalation process not change x11...

For workaround try download and install drivers via nvidia site...

And what's is you videocard? Also give us output

lspcidrake -v

and

lspci

and output /var/log/Xorg.0.log
Comment 2 philippe.roubach 2012-12-22 17:42:27 MSK
>> Support of old monitors (that not get right EDID)

my monitors is well detected and the right "philips 170C5" driver is installed till rosa marathon
then
i can't believe it does not get a right EDID

>> (see solution in goole like 50-monitor.conf, 10-monitor.conf etc)

what does that mean ?

i will sent reports later. i must restart my pc with rosa
Comment 3 philippe.roubach 2012-12-22 18:21:45 MSK

Comment 5 philippe.roubach 2012-12-22 18:41:54 MSK
with mandriva 2010.2 i586
x server 13 (from mib team)

i can install 304.60 nvidia driver

with 2012.1 i can install the correct philips 170C5 with the graphical server manager
Comment 6 Aleksandr Kazantcev 2012-12-23 19:11:32 MSK
For future migrate in fully autodetect we was disabled xorg.conf generation and use only p'n'p detect system (for monitors too). It's really needing and this is not erorr - we develop FRESH as an experimental base for future release.

Ok, I'm going to add this to the erratas english page
Comment 8 Aleksandr Kazantcev 2012-12-23 21:16:57 MSK
Sylvainsjc - we need test 50-monitor.conf workaround.

This using in SUSE, Arch, Ubuntu, Fedora etc

If it's work, we may rewrite XFdrake and return monitor configuration menu for this monitor, non-working with properly EDID information.
Comment 9 Sylvainsjc 2012-12-23 21:36:23 MSK
Sorry but I need precisions

When I executed the configuration tool XFdrake for my NVidia card, he proposed me a monitor "Plug'n Play (Syncmaster)" because my monitor is a Samsung Syncmaster 2243. So I selected this monitor.
Despite this, during loading and installation of the driver (but before the end), the screen becomes unreadable with vertical lines. No action can then fix this, there are only reboot possible.

So what is the right method for a user for install the proprietary driver without problem ?
Comment 10 Aleksandr Kazantcev 2012-12-23 21:47:05 MSK
It's problem with X-server i'm think and newest modeset options in kernel.

We need write newest instrument that

1. Download latest driver from NVIDIA and needing package
2. Add some magic to start script
3. Reboot system and install driver via non-X mode
4. Reboot again...

i made this experiment :

i start in single mode
then
i launch drakx11
then
ok,ok
then
drakx11 installs the packets relative to nvidia driver
then
during the installation of packets
i have this message :

your screen is currently too small for this application
resize the screen and restart the application
Press <ctrl+C> to exit

system is freezed. i must use the pc front panel restart button
Comment 13 philippe.roubach 2012-12-27 22:28:25 MSK
i created a 50.monitor.conf in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/
with contents

Section "Monitor"
  Identifier "VGA1"
  Option "PreferredMode" "1280x1024"
EndSection

then
i have same pb as in "description"

then
i changed the contents to

Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "VGA1"
    Modeline "1368x768_75.00" 110.19 1368 1456 1600 1832 768 769 772 802 -HSync +Vsync
EndSection

then
i tried to install nvidia driver
then
Xfdrake says "unable to install x11-driver-video-nvidia-current"

if i try to install any nvidia packet with the software manager
then
as soon as i click to select a packet then software manager disappears !
Comment 14 philippe.roubach 2013-01-14 19:26:06 MSK

It's interesting if this issue still valid with current nvidia drivers and XFdrake. There were a lot of changes since the time the bug was reported...

sorry but i don't use rosa fresh desktop r1
i just tested it.
it is no more installed.

is there a r2 or a new one ?
Comment 17 Denis Silakov 2013-09-25 13:43:38 MSD
R1 is the latest one, http://mirror.rosalab.ru/rosa/rosa2012.1/iso/ROSA.Fresh.R1/
Comment 18 philippe.roubach 2013-09-29 17:49:21 MSD
itoday i installed rosa fresh desktop r1 with all the updates

i can install the nvidia driver

but

1. nomodeset is not add in the kernel boot parameters

nvidia driver does not use kms technology the you must disable kms technology with "nomodeset"

an other method is to set to no the parameter about kms technology in mkinitrd

startup does not finish without nomodeset

2. when installing nvidia driver

all about gpu accell is not installed

for example all packets about vdpau , vaapi and not only packets about vdpau driver but also gstreamer packet about vaapi and vdpau

without that for example vlc (uses vaapi) consume 40 % of cpu power and i can't view fluently with my mp4 video produced with my smartphone

3. it seems once nvidia driver is installed i must start 2 times pc

the first time always pc freezes

Comment 21 Alexander Burmashev 2013-09-29 18:17:57 MSD
to install drivers properly you need to do it with XFDrake, not manually.
Comment 22 philippe.roubach 2013-09-29 18:30:00 MSD
where did you see that i installed manually the nvidia driver ?

i don't know anything about a manual install

i installed the nvidia driver with the "graphical server manager" in the kde settings > admin tools
Comment 24 Denis Silakov 2013-10-01 13:50:53 MSD
Thanks for the detailed investigation.

Unfortunately, XFdrake is sometimes the only way to install nvidia drivers correctly, that was the reason why we resurrected this tool...

I am having issues with this, I cannot disable noaveau.
