ROSA Linux Bugzilla – Bug 114
Lack of software management program and sources
Last modified: 2013-09-21 17:14:29 MSD
Description of problem:
I expected during the Live session and after to get a fully functional "urpmi" and/or graphical frontend, somewhere very intuitive and visible. Not only there isn't (sure there is in Drakconf, but for a new user to get there it's complicated), but software sources are also missing. This means I can't install new applications or update my system. This is a bug, imho.
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
2012 LTS Beta
Steps to Reproduce:
1. boot the live media (and optionally install)
2. try to install an application or update an existing one
3. get frustrated and go back in Ubuntu Linux or Windows :)
All of the above is written from the perspective of a new user, let's say a freshly converted Windows/Mac user or some of the dumber Ubuntu ones.
This bug is filed against Marathon, but it's too late to implement such requests for Marathon.
However, in Desktop Fresh R1 repositories are enabled by default after installation (and this behavior will be preserved in next versions).
As for urpmi graphical frontend, for Marathon and Desktop Fresh R1 we still have rpmdrake. However, we are currently developing a new Software Center which should be more friendly for end users. You can even find its prototypes in contrib repositories of Desktop Fresh.
